For over 20 years, Housing for New Hope (HNH) has powered Durham's Street Outreach program-connecting hundreds of our most vulnerable neighbors to housing and supportive services. We're proud of the impact our team has made - often exceeding the national benchmarks in getting participants connected to housing.
Throughout our history, HNH has evolved to meet changing community needs-shifting from emergency shelter to transitional housing, pioneering Rapid Rehousing in North Carolina, and more. Each pivot enabled us to serve more effectively.
After thoughtful reflection, we concluded it was time for another change. As of June 30, 2025, HNH formally concluded our Street Outreach program to focus on expanding supportive housing options. This decision was not made lightly, but was made in close coordination with the City, County, and Homeless Services Advisory Committee, and in consideration of what will best address the evolving housing crisis and serve the Durham community.
On July 1, 2025, the City of Durham's HEART Team officially assumed responsibility as the primary street outreach provider. We continue to work closely with them to ensure a seamless transition for staff and community members. While it's bittersweet to step back from this work after decades of service, we believe this pivot allows HNH to make an even greater impact going forward. Thank you for supporting us through this transition.
