Helping Neighbors Thrive in Homes Across the Triangle

Housing for New Hope’s Community-based Supportive Housing program connects individuals and families exiting homelessness to homes in privately owned apartments and rental units throughout Durham, Orange, Wake, and Alamance Counties. This model relies on strong relationships with local landlords and housing partners who open their doors to residents with significant barriers to housing.

Program participants receive help navigating the complex housing search process and support throughout lease-up. Housing Navigation Specialists help locate appropriate units, complete applications, and coordinate move-in logistics. Once housed, these participants receive personalized case management from their Housing Stability Coordinator and benefit from both the stability of a permanent home and supportive services that promote treatment, recovery, and self-sufficiency.    

What we provide:
  • Housing navigation support from application to move-in
  • Financial assistance with move-in costs, utilities, security deposits, and application fees as well as ongoing costs
  • A Home Essentials Kit to furnish each new home with basic kitchen, bath, and bedroom necessities
  • Supportive services aligned with participant goals—ranging from job readiness to health care connections
  • A dedicated Housing Stability Coordinator who helps participants build local connections and navigate services, resources, and challenges within their new community
  • Ongoing support based on each resident’s individual needs 
Unlocking Doors Initiative

Housing for New Hope manages the Unlocking Doors Initiative with the City of Durham:

• We recruit landlord partners to expand access to affordable, quality housing

• This streamlines access to housing for five other local homeless services agencies

• We then provide ongoing support to landlords, promoting successful tenancies and reducing barriers to participation
