What Is a Rent Party?

The legacy of the Rent Party has roots in early twentieth century Harlem, where tenants would gather together with musicians and pitch in money to address the gulf between the income for marginalized tenants and the rent charged to the black community. Today, the concept has expanded beyond the original neighborhood and can be used to help charitable organizations raise needed funds for individuals and families facing financial challenges during tough economic times. Attendees can choose their admission fee, ranging from $17.50 - the daily rent cost for one, subsidized apartment - all the way to a full month’s coverage of $525.

The Rent Party helps bridge the gap between what tenants can pay and how much it costs to rent a unit. Your donation will help ensure our most vulnerable neighbors stay housed!

Our average tenant needs about $17.50 per day to cover rent. Your support at this level grants a day to our neighbors!

Contributors at the $525 level are providing the equivalent of a full month’s rent for our supportive housing clients! As most renters know, having the month taken care of for shelter frees up your efforts and attention toward other life priorities.

We hope to see you ready for a night on the town! Thank you for all your support of HNH’s mission to end homelessness one valuable person at a time!
