Volunteers were critical to the completion of Williams Square Apartments. Many groups and individuals helped with landscaping, and assembling and moving furnishings and appliances.

Your help makes a difference. More than 150 volunteers contribute more than 1,000 hours of service every year to help Housing for New Hope provide housing and other crucial services to homeless men and women.

Housing for New Hope offers both individuals and groups a variety of opportunities for getting involved. Volunteer opportunities include the following:

Help with the Maintenance of Properties and Facilities

Housing for New Hope operates three apartment complexes, two transitional homes, three storage facilities, and a fleet of six vehicles.

Opportunities to assist in this area include painting transitional houses, apartments, and administrative office, washing vehicles, and cleaning storage facility. These are group activities. They would last two to five hours per job, and take place during the day, either on weekdays or weekends.

Acting as Instructors and Mentors to Residents and Tenants

Housing for New Hope has sixteen individuals in its transitional homes, 64 individuals in its apartments, and more than fifty individuals that it has places in privately-owned apartments. All of these individuals have been homeless. Many would benefit from developing professional and life skills.

Opportunities to assist in this area include teaching classes to groups and/or working one-on-one with individuals on subjects in which you have a particular knowledge or passion (for example: GED preparation, reading, writing, budgeting, computer literacy, art, music). These are individual or group activities. They would last one to two hours per session and potentially be ongoing. They would most likely take place in the weekday evenings and on weekends.

Supporting Professional Capacity of Housing for New Hope

Housing for New Hope frequently undertakes advocacy and research as part of its work. It also would benefit from professional expertise related to marketing, communications, telecommunications, and other infrastructure-related matters as it grows as an organization.

Opportunities to assist in this area include undertaking research for specific projects and reports, providing feedback on marketing and development efforts through committee participation and on an ad hoc basis, and advising on infrastructure-related matters. These are individual or group activities. They would last one to eight hours per session and potentially be ongoing. They would primarily take place during weekdays.

Assisting with One-Time Events

Housing for New Hope has annual and one-time events that benefit from the support of volunteers.

Opportunities to assist in this area include assisting with the organization and running of fundraising concerts, community days, and the annual summer breakfast. These are group activities They would last one to three hours per event and potentially take place on weekdays or weekends.
